Wales trip, Installment #1 (Or: It's Just Like Going to Canada)
We left for Wales earlyish in the morning on Friday. Right before leaving the house I double-checked the itinerary and noticed that it said to bring our passports. Which was hugely shocking, because I had had no plan whatsoever to bring my passport with me. I mean, Wales is still part of the UK, is it not? It's like...going to Mexico or Canada from the States. Anyway I was mightily relieved to have noticed that before leaving the house. Hey, I thought. Someone's looking out for me.
On the way to the school I ran into Erin, who did not, as it turned out, have her passport. She went home to get it while I went on ahead to hold up the bus. When I got there a couple of other people didn't have theirs either, and they argued with me that we wouldn't need them.
'Why on earth would we need a passport?' Kathryn said. 'It's like...going to Canada.'
'I know that. It's just that it says to bring it on the itinerary.'
Kathryn seemed frustrated. 'Well. That is stupid and makes no sense.'
Which was about the time the tour guide, whose name turned out to be Jenny, showed up. She hopped merrily out of the bus and asked if we were all there. I told her Erin had gone back to get her passport. She laughed at me.
'You don't need a passport to go to Wales!'
Everyone turned to me and laughed. 'Seeee?' Kathryn said.
I hate when things like that happen because people don't realize that I'm on their side. Grrr. 'Well,' I said, meekly. 'It said on the itinerary...'
'Oh!' Jenny all but shook her fist. 'I told Bruce not to put that down. "Bruce," I says to him, I said, "they're not going to get your jokes! They'll believe you!"'
Oh God, I thought as Kathryn smiled triumphantly. Erin showed up looking all hot and winded, and a huge wave of guilt for having sent her home washed over me. 'So,' she said, 'I went back and Tricia said I wouldn't need my passport. Isn't it just like...going to Canada or something?'
'I hate you all,' I said, and got into the bus. Or, rather, I said nothing and got into the bus. Same thing.

Sad news
How do parents explain to their little kids that Dumbledore is gone?
I planned to tell you all about Wales upon getting back, but I'm slightly bummed. I'll post again later in the day. Sigh.
